Neural Manipulation- A new technique offered at the Clinic

Bentleigh Chiropractor, Melbourne

Elizabeth Walker (Chiropractor) recently participated in the Neuromeningeal manipulation (NM1) workshop in Sydney, offered by the Barral Institute, a health resource centre that presents continuing education courses to healthcare professionals worldwide.

The Neural Manipulation Curriculum was developed by French Osteopath, Jean Pierre Barral who has taught the techniques wordwide, as well as trained and certified Instructors to teach for The Barral Institiude.

According to the The Barral Institute Neural Manipulation examines mechanical relationships between the cranium/spine hard frame to the dura and neural elements. It provides assessment and treatment approaches to address restrictions of the dura (the membrane covering the spinal cord) and neural components. Neural manipulation identifies and releases local nerve restrictions, while at the same time examines the effects these local fixations have on the rest of the body, and by assessing this relationship, resolves the more comprehensive dysfunctional patterns of the patient.

A nerve only functions correctly when it is able to move freely within the surrounding structures.

These gentle manipulations have the potential to affect the physiological function and the structural integrity of the entire body.

Who would benefit from this treatment?

  • Patients with previous head trauma
  • Whiplash
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Anxiety/Stress
  • Chronic pain
