Fertility and Inflammation – a no stress place equals a fertile space
I recently came across an article while doing my weekly research that highlighted the link between the immune system and fertility. Together with immune system health, there was a strong association with how physiological stress affects the immune system and subsequently, fertility.
If you are a patient of mine you will have heard me talk a lot about how stress can impact your fertility. We often think of stress as only emotional stress and we do not usually think about physiological stress on the body.
Physiological stress can impact fertility because this type of stress is associated with inflammation in the body. Write in full.> Protein levels and levels that were found to be elevated were often associated with that person having fertility issues. CR Protein is a blood test that is an indicator of inflammation in your body.
So what specifically causes this physiological stress?
- Coughs, colds and flu
- Eating foods that are inflammatory (sugar, excessive caffeine, alcohol, gluten etc.)
- Being overweight or underweight
- Trauma (surgery, accident, injury)
The key is to make sure you are doing all you can do to decrease this inflammation. By doing so, your body is then able to reduce the stress and therefore decrease hormonal imbalances. This will also allow nutrients to get inside your cells effectively, equalling healthier cells - which include your eggs, ovaries and endometrial lining.
